Juicy cash prizes at stake in 14th Milo Littlelympics

LOCAL sports organizer Megdonio R. Llamera guarantees that this year's Milo Little Olympics Mindanao will be more exciting.

"Every year, there is an improvement to make the event grandiose," said Llamera, citing the Search for Miss Milo Little Olympics, the Milo sports writing and photo contests among the side events to spice up the multifarious meet.

Thousand of athletes from all over Mindanao will troop at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center on Friday (1 p.m.) for the 14th year opening of the regional Milo Little Olympics in Cagayan de Oro.

Over a dozen sports disciplines will be contested by the island's finest student athletes in elementary and secondary levels.

"The effort is very much aligned to the sports and athletics concerns of the Department of Education," said DepEd-Davao Regional Director Luz S. Almeda in supporting the program.

rAlmeda herself encouraged heads of public and private schools in the region to allow their pupils and students' participation, thereby ensuring a bigger and more challenging field this year.

Prizes are also awaiting the winners for biggest school delegation, loudest cheer, best in marching and salute, most disciplined school and cheer-dance during the opening day.

On top of these, Llamera said the champion school in the elementary and secondary divisions will be receiving P40,000 each. While the second and third placers overall will be given P20,000 and P10,000 apiece worth of sports equipment. (With UCQ reports)
