Police charge suspected carjackers

MABALACAT -- The town police has charged six persons suspected of robbing a truck loaded with grocery items along the MacArthur Highway in Barangay Tabun here.

Robbery and carnapping charges were filed before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office against Eliseo Cayabyab Magtoto Jr. of Barangay Lakandula, and five others, in connection with the incident, said Superintendent Rolly Mendoza, town police chief.

Truck driver Jeffrey Cerdon and his helper Jeffrey Rana, told police that the six suspects, on board a Mitsubishi Pajero sports utility vehicle, blocked his way along the highway in said village.

The suspects, who were then clad in police uniform, reportedly shouted to the driver saying that they have just ignored a police checkpoint established along the road.

Cerdon and Rana both hands and feet were tied before the suspects took the truck loaded with goods like shampoo, soap, and food products.

Cerdon said they were dumped in Mexico town later.

Mendoza said they were able to identify the suspects through the information relayed by an informant.

The suspects are still at large but are now a subject of manhunt operation, according to Mendoza, but the truck, he added, was recovered empty in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.
