A FORMER municipal councilor and his aide were arrested by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and City Public Safety Management Company of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Wednesday.
Police identified the suspects as Raul Caballero, 44, former councilor of Nabunturan, Compostela Valley Province, and Roger Razon, 30, auto technician, resident of Agdao, Davao City.
PDEA in Davao Region Director Roybel Sanchez told Sun.Star Superbalita that the two were arrested after being found in possession of sachets of crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
Caballero was arrested in his residence on 3rd street, Guadalupe Village, Lanang, Davao City while Razon was arrested inside the PDEA-Davao Region office.
Razon was sent by Caballero to pick-up a package, containing the suspected shabu at PDEA office.
The suspects were arrested after an informant handed a package from Cagayan de Oro City addressed to Caballero at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The package was sent through a bus driver, but it accidentally landed on the hands of the informant.
"A man received an envelope by accident and when he opened it, it contains shabu and he brought it to our office," a PDEA informant said in an interview with Sun.Star Superbalita Thursday.
According to the agent, they called up the bus driver and confirmed the address of the package.
Caballero was then informed that his package was sent to the wrong person and now at the PDEA office.
"He asked somebody else, Roger Razon, to get the package, which lead to their arrest," the agent said.
Authorities recovered one sachet of shabu, three cellular phones, one caliber .45 gun and magazine with ten bullets from Caballero.
The PDEA agent said they used Caballero's cellphone to text the sender of the package to inquire whether it contained shabu. According to the agent, the sender replied and confirmed that it contained shabu.
Caballero is reportedly engaged in buying and selling of surplus cars in the city. He is presently detained at the detention cell of the PDEA 11.
As of this posting, Razon was released and was not included in the case.
Caballero is facing violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the courts.
The suspect, who ran and lost the recent mayoralty post in Nabunturan, refused to give comment.
