Ally defends Aquino's Sona

A VOLUNTEER during President Benigno Aquino III's campaign defended him from criticisms following his first State of the Nation Address (Sona).

Lawyer Alexander Bangsoy said the President has successfully delivered his message.

Among the bases Bangsoy enumerated include: first, the President was able to cut across social divisions and was able to clearly send his message; second that he was able to show a road map of what will be his priorities in the next six years; and third, he was able project a leadership which priorities what the public really needs.

Amid criticism that the Sona failed to address equally important issues such as agrarian reform, health care and environment, Bangsoy said all the needs of the country cannot be contained in one speech.

"At least now, those in government know the President is bent on ending corruption. No one would dare enrich themselves while in government. Takot na sila," Bangsoy said in a phone interview.

Amid the praise and flak that the President got, Bangsoy said Aquino was able to send a clear message of the kind of governance he wants. (Rimaliza Opiña)
