Hunt for City Jail escapee widens

THE Bureau of Jail Management (BJMP) 7 has widened the manhunt for the escapee from the Cebu City Jail.

Insp. Anacleto Dusaran, jail’s chief custodian, told Sun.Star Cebu some of the guards have gone to Hibayao, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, the provincial address of escapee Reynard Lindayao Marturillas.

Dusaran said the team of jail officers led by Insp. Richard Laure, tasked in the manhunt, has been in the field since last Tuesday.

Marturillas, who was waiting for his transfer to the National Bilibid Prison, escaped from the city jail last Tuesday.

Marturillas, 35, of Sitio Baca in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City was believed to have sneaked into a garbage truck that dropped by the jail that afternoon.

Convicted

Marturillas was convicted last June 8 in a drug-related case and faces a jail term of 12 years and one day to a maximum of 15 years.

He was also convicted for violating Batas Pambansa Bilang 6, for concealing a deadly weapon. For that, he was meted one month’s imprisonment.

Help

The Cebu City Police Office is also helping the BJMP in the manhunt.

After receiving the spot report from the city jail, the BJMP 7’s investigation section headed by Senior Insp. Medardo Dungog conducted the probe.

Apart from the three shift jail officers, who were on duty during the escape, Supt. Waldmer Villanueva, Cebu City Jail officer-in-charge, has been included in the investigation.

Villanueva was designated to the post about a week ago, taking over Supt. Efren Nemenio.

Chief Insp. Mary Jane Enopia of the BJMP 7 community relations service said the order of the regional director is for the immediate capture of Marturillas.

She said Dungog’s team was at the city jail yesterday for the investigation.

Details of the investigation will be disclosed after Dungog submits his findings and recommendations.
