Probe over Pagcor anomalies sought (2:46 p.m.)

MANILA -- A party-list group seeks investigation on the alleged multi-million anomalies involving the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) under the leadership of its former chair Efraim Genuino.

In a resolution they filed at the Congress, Bayan Muna Representatives Teddy Casino and Neri Colmenares said the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability should investigate Pagcor agency, which was "practically made a milking cow by the Genuino-led management" under the administration former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

It was recently discovered that Genuino signed a check amounting to P21.119 million and payable to the agency's former president and chief operating officer Rafael Francisco on June 28, just two days before President Aquino took his oath of office.

The P21.119 million was used for the purchase of cheese burgers and chicken meals donated to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in a period of eight days.

“Pagcor is not mandated to finance the budgetary requirements of the country’s police force, as this is the duty of Congress,” the lawmakers said. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
