PB commends four Cebuanos

THE Cebu Provincial Board (PB) commended four Cebuanos for their achievements in their fields.

In separate resolutions, the PB commended former chief justice Hilario Davide Jr., Jose Rene Almendras, PB Member Agnes Magpale and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.

The board congratulated Davide for being appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as chairman of the Truth Commission that will investigate the alleged irregularities of

the Arroyo administration.

PB Member Arleigh Sitoy, in his resolution, said "it is Cebu's pride and honor to have former chief justice Davide among the pillars of change in the Aquino administration.”

Sitoy also authored the resolutions commending Almendras, who was named energy secretary, also by Aquino.

Magpale, Almendras's sister, abstained in the approval of the resolution as she might be accused of bias.

The PB also commended Magpale for her achievements in championing the cause of women.

She was the first to investigate the proliferation of lingam massage parlors, particularly in Mandaue City.

Magpale believes lingam or penile massages will lead to the exploitation of women.

PB Member Thadeo Ouano, a former mayor of Mandaue City, authored the resolution commending Magpale.

For his action against the operation of lingam massage parlors, Mayor Cortes was also commended by the PB.

PB Member Thadeo Ouano said, in his resolution, that Cortes should be commended "for taking the appropriate action by issuing temporary closure orders against several lingam massage businesses for not complying with the requirements of the law.”
