Group renews call vs piggery, fowl farms

ANGELES CITY -- The Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM) has renewed its call against piggery and poultry farms in nearby Porac town, which are said to be emitting foul odor and polluting the environment.

PGKM leader and trader Ruperto Cruz, who owns a golf course and a restaurant in Barangay Kuayan, asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local government of Porac to consider the appeal of the residents in the area to relocate the farms.

According to Cruz, the piggery and poultry farms are polluting the environment and killing the people living in the area.

Cruz claimed that residents in several villages here and in Porac are getting sick because of the unpleasant smell emitted by the farms.

The trader even lashed on the DENR for failing to implement environmental laws and allows the farms to pollute the area.

"Siguro gagawa sila ng aksiyon kapag patay na ang lahat ng mga taong nakatira dito," Cruz said.

He even vowed to lead a mass action if only to air the people's sentiments against the farms.

According to Cruz, he has already sought the help of personalities close to President Aquino with regard to the issue.

"Ang tagal tagal ng problema ito pero hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa inaaksyunan ng gobierno," Cruz lamented.
