Aquino marks mother's 1st death anniversary (11:36 a.m.)

MANILA -- President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III led Sunday the commemoration of the first death anniversary of his mother, late President Corazon "Cory" Aquino.

Aquino, together with his family, relatives, friends and followers of the late President, gathered at La Salle Greenhills in San Juan City to attend a tribute and special death anniversary mass for the People Power icon.

Before the mass, a brief program was held to remember the contribution of former President Cory in the country's history.

President Aquino unveiled the commemorative marker signifying the legacy of his mother and her contribution in shaping the country.

The President was joined by his sisters Ballsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris with two sons Joshua and Baby James.

A mass shortly followed after the unveiling.

Politicians, celebrities and other known personalities attended the mass.

Among those who arrived early were Congressman Gina De Venecia, CNN hero Efren Penaflorida, and former Cebu Congressman Antonio Cuenco.

Vice President Jejomar Binay and his family were also present.

Senators TG Guingona, Sergio Osmena and Rodolfo Biazon with son Representative Ruffy Biazon were also in attendance.

Cabinet men of President Noynoy DBM sec Butch Abad, Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman and Bureau of Internal Revenue commissioner Kim Henares also heard the mass.

The heads of the communications group Sonny Coloma, Edwin Lacierda and Ricky Carandang were also present. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
