Daniel is NCAA player of the week (12:28 p.m.)

MANILA -- American center Sudan Daniel reaps the Accel/FilOil NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week honors courtesy of his monster performance against Perpetual Help last Wednesday.

Daniel, who made into last year's Mythical Five, toyed the undermanned Altas by scoring 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked 10 shots to keep the Mendiola-based cagers unbeaten after five games to nail the award backed by Terrilicious meat products.

The Red Lions led as high as 30 points in a game that sent the Altas languishing at the cellar (0-6).

"He was a monster. He really showed his presence inside," said coach Frankie Lim, who only inserted his prized big man with just three minutes left in the first quarter.

San Beda won over Perpetual via a 101-74 demolition.

Prior to this game, Daniel, who notched his first triple-double of the season, was averaging just 8.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks.

"This is a very emotional season for us because we want to get the title back to San Beda," said Daniel.

Daniel bested San Sebastian's Calvin "The Beast" Abueva, Mapua's Macky Acosta and Emilio Aguinaldo College's Milan Vargas. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
