THE biggest junior chess event is back.
The 18th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship Central Visayas Leg-Cebu will be held at the University of San Carlos – North Campus Gymnasium on Aug. 28 and 29.
Some of the country’s big names in chess, Grandmasters Nelson Mariano II, Mark Paragua, Wesley So, Darwin Laylo and John Paul Gomez, started in this event.
The top players from Cebu, Bohol and Dumaguete are expected to join the tournament, which serves as the qualifying round for the national grand finals on Oct. 23 and 24 in Manila.
The competition is divided into two categories--the Juniors Class for 20 years old and below and the Kiddies Division for 14 years old and below.
Only 500 slots are available in every leg.
