UB holds Skills Olympics

CULINARY and hospitality skills make for a fun competition.

The University of Baguio School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM) held a Skills Olympics July 27, 28, 29 at the UB Centennial building and UB Cardinal's Gym giving students time to enjoy what they learned in the classroom in a real life setting.

The Olympics highlighted students' talents in the hospitality and the tourism industry.

Skills in cooking, housekeeping, creative art and decorating were transformed into competitions where students were pitted against each other.

One of the events was the "Cake Decorating Live" contest under the Culinary Events open for students who have the skills in cake decoration, participants had only 30 minutes to finish their cakes and had to face a panel of judges.

The cakes were judged for their creative designs as well as the overall look it had.

The winning cake from the team of Donna Chamos where Samira Roldan and Sharlimae Basitan beat the clock to finish their cake with full decoration.

"It is hard to decorate and finish this cake especially they only gave us 30 minutes," both contestants said.

Roldan and Basitan were hailed as champions in the cake decorating category with 1st runner up Silver Medal under the team of Glenn Victorio, Eunice Ordunia and Kelvin Palangdao and the 2nd Runner up Bronze Medal under the team of Mari Chris Tallayo and Marvin Bugtong.
