Disaster partners lauded in Gawad Kalasag awards

THE Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), through the Office of Civil Defense, awarded Thursday last week organizations in disaster risk reduction and management.

Cordillera RPOC chairman and Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan said it is but fitting to commend this time, organizations within or outside of government, which have been supportive of the Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives of the RPOC.

Among the top winners in this year's regional search for Gawad Kalasag are the Baguio Benguet Public Information and Civic Action Group volunteer group and the Philex Mining Corporation. Both will represent the region in the National Kalasag Search.

Other regional Kalasag winners are the Baguio City Emergency Medical Service and the 503rd Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, which have been responders in previous typhoons that struck the region.

Meanwhile, the provincial disaster coordinating councils of Benguet, Ifugao and Mountain Province were also lauded for their swift response during disasters.

Individual special recognition was also given to Representative Maximo Dalog, Police Senior Superintendent Orlando Pestaño, Police Senior Superintendent Joseph Adnol, Police Chief Inspector Freddie Lazona, former DPWH director Roy Manao, Engr. Clifton Valencerina, Engr. Joel Son of Philex, Elfred Dalang, and Esteban Ubaldo.
