Poll body resets village election listing

COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) has reset the schedule of the registration for the coming barangay polls.

Comelec Provincial Supervisor Jessie Suarez said the schedule for the registration for regular voters, initially set from August 1 to 10, has been moved to August 4 to 13.

The schedule of registration for Sangguniang Kabataan voters stays the same, which will be on August 6 to 15.

The new schedule is contained in Resolution 9007 promulgated last July 24, 2010 by the Comelec commissioners.

Suarez said the registration schedule was reset because Comelec Manila held a training for the use of Data Capturing Machine (DCM) for election officers and assistant election officers of the towns and cities. Apparently, the training took longer than expected. The training in Negros Occidental was held last July 27 to 30.

Suarez also said that, at this time, there is no postponement of the barangay election which is scheduled on October 25 or the last Monday of the month of October.

Suarez said they were not furnished yet with the schedule of activities for the incoming election, adding that they have already distributed all the DCMs that will be used for the registration of voters in all towns and cities in the province. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)
