Five ‘marijuana couriers’ collared

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Police operatives arrested five men who were about to transport some P1.25 million worth of marijuana bricks.

La Union Police Provincial Director Ramon Puruganan identified the suspects as Emiliano Cabading (42), Ben Pacuyan (58), Meling Puklis (50), Josepha Dayao (42), and a 13-year-old boy.

Confiscated from the suspects were 24 bricks of dried marijuana leaves placed inside four plastic bags.

Puruganan accredited the accomplishment to tip from a police informant.

Upon receipt of the information, a checkpoint was set-up at Sitio Kilat in the village of Bumbuneg in San Gabriel town manned by the law enforcers from San Gabriel Police Station, LUPPO’s anti-illegal drug unit, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, an owner-type jeep, bearing the contraband, was flagged down at the road blockade.

The arrested persons and confiscated items were brought to the San Gabriel Police Station for investigation and proper disposition.

Meanwhile, Puruganan encouraged the citizenry to help the Philippine National Police (PNP) in addressing the problem on illegal drugs, as he thanked the informants for the timely relay of the information resulting to the arrest of the suspects. (LCMY/Sunnex)
