18 French arnisadors in Scoop forum

EIGHTEEN martial artists from a French territory who came to Cebu last week to learn the Filipino martial art of eskrima will grace the Scoop Forum today.

The visitors are from the Reunion Island Republic, a French territory. They are led by Max Carpin and Jean Claude Calimoutou, president and head Instructor of Reunion Martial Art School.

The group will also demonstrate their country’s martial art known as mornigue—a capoeira-like form—and also their native dance known as Maloy-a.

It is the third visit of Calimoutou to Cebu. He joined the 2004 and 2008 editions of the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation Championships and won the super lightweight division.

The visitors will be accompanied by Eskrima Grandmasters Nick Elizar of Balintawak, Fred Carin of Carin Doce Pares and Andres “Kano” Cañete of Doce Pares WorId Headquarters. They are training alternately at the three Eskrima Clubs as arranged by GM Diony Cañete.

The group will also perform for the public for free this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Doce Pares Park in Busay. (PR)
