Lakas-Kampi-CMD mulls reorganization (3:30 p.m.)

MANILA -- Political party Lakas-Kampi-CMD, whose Chairwoman and President Emeritus is former President and current congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, might consider a reorganization of its officials, its spokesperson told Sun.Star.

“We'll decide on Saturday whether a party reorganization will be necessary at this time,” Lakas-Kampi-CMD's spokesperson Raul Lambino said.

Lambino added that the party leaders' opinion will be determined by the group before a consensus is arrived at.

Asked whether Arroyo will likely step down as the party's chair, Lambino replied: "I haven't talked to her on that but it's always a possibility."

In a separate conference, Representative Emil Ong (second district, Northern Samar) said that Arroyo stepping down from her post will not help Lakas-Kampi-CMD since she is the glue that holds the members together.

During the election for House speaker, only 29 members of Arroyo's party voted for their bet Representative Edcel Lagman (first district, Albay) while most of their members went for the majority vote.

Ong explained that some of their members chose to vote Representative Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte (fourth district, Quezon City) for the speakership post since the numbers for Lagman are not enough anyway. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
