Woman dies, militiaman hurt in ambush

A 44-YEAR-OLD housewife died while her militiaman husband was wounded in an ambush in a remote area in Zamboanga City, the police reported.

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the village of Latuan, 52 kilometers east of the city.

The victims were identified as Arlene Endino, who died on the spot and Endino's husband, Romeo, 45, was wounded.

Investigation disclosed that the victims were on the way to the militia detachment when they were ambushed by seven gunmen.

The responding policemen have recovered several empty shells of caliber .45 pistol and M-16 Armalite rifle from the ambush site.

Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo of the Zamboanga City Police Office has ordered a thorough probe on the incident. (Bong Garcia)
