Tasty spud at the corner

ARE you a meat and potatoes man, a marathon runner, a hungry triathlete fitness buff, or a tired parent about to drop with empty-bellied kids? If you are, the place to be is Potato Corner Spud Diner near SM Trade Hall alongside Cinemas 6 to 8.

This is the place where you can get baked potato lasagna, potato carbonara (a take-off from the spaghetti noodle original), croquettes, fish n’ chips and “Crazy Spudsters,” which are different cuts of potato, from the French fries to the crinkle cut fries that are served with a tomato and beef topping.

The Spud Diner also serves corned beef hash, hash browns and an interesting item called the Italian Job, which is a combination of an olive and caper sauce on potato wedges. A potato dessert is also available: the first chocolate-flavored French fries served with ice cream and a rich chocolate sauce!

Still available are the favorites of Potato Corner like the flavored French fries and coming up soon, French fries with a new chili barbecue flavor, and also French fries with a Parmesan cheese flavor.

For this potato corner, there are endless possibilities for the spud. Owned and managed by Ed and Therese Gonzalez, the diner promises an explosion of the taste buds.

The couple pioneered in flavored French fries here in Cebu at what was then Potato Corner, now also Spud Diner.

Jose Magsaysay, president of Cinco Corporation, is the genius behind Potato Corner’s Spud Diner concept which uses only Top A quality US potatoes. The US Potato Board and the Cinco Corporation are an inventive team creating spud favorites. No wonder Potato Corner has expanded to Indonesia, Los Angeles and San Francisco California, Las Vegas Nevada and Malaysia.

Jose and the Gonzalez couple are thinking of a healthy option for customers who want to have the best of both worlds. Imagine camote (sweet potato), rich in fiber as camote chips or flambed with orange liqueur as a side dish.
