Red Cross gives out awards

THE Mindanao Regional Blood Center (MRBC) of the Philippine Red Cross recently held its Blood Services Awarding Ceremony at the Dynasty Court Hotel which recognizes individuals, groups and institutions for its various contributions with blood letting as the primary activity.

This year’s theme “Young Blood: New Blood for the World” reflects the genre of blood donors from the younger generation.

The event showed off interpretation of the Red Cross Hymn and Fundamental Principles by the MRBC staff and testimonials from guest speakers Ms. Vanessa Alcantar of Red Cross Youth-National Field Representative and former PBB housemate and Red Cross Youth Star Volunteer Ms. Dionne Monsanto.

Inspirational speaker of the event was Secretary General Ms. Gwendolyn Pang while Gov. Adrian C. Pabayo, Board of Governors of the Philippine Red Cross, also gave a special message.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Jose “Joe” Nebrao, chairman and a Board of Director, acknowledged the donors and challenged them to continue encouraging others to support and donate as Dr. Myra Yee, Blood Center Manager, appeals to donors and benefactors not to get tired in donating and not to succumb to what is called “Donor Fatigue.”

Cagayan de Oro City Vice Mayor Ian Acenas, a donor himself, duly expressed his gratitude to both the private and public sectors and his commendation to the staff and officers of the MRBC especially to Dr. Yee for her unselfish efforts to go out her way to serve the general public.

Among the awards given are certificates of appreciations, merit certificates, merit diplomas, Blood Outstanding Services Awards, Outstanding Blood Coordinator

Awards Blood Galloners given to those with at least eight bags donation, Blood

Donation Champions for those who have more than 500 bags to 1,000 bags of blood or 10 years continuous blood donation, Blood Samaritan Awards for provision of blood processing fee to indigent patients, Bronze Medalists for those with at least 25 bags donation and Silver Medalists given to those with at least 40 bags donation.
