FEU targets first-round sweep (11:26 p.m.)

MANILA -- Buoyed by six straight wins, Far Eastern University (FEU) makes sure that it would keep an immaculate 7-0 card at the end of their first round campaign in the 73rd UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

A headache for the Tamaraws, however, is the fierce outside shooting of pesky University of Santo Tomas (UST) which include Clark Bautista, Jeric Teng and Jeric Fortuna, who drained eight triples in their come-from-behind win against University of the Philippines (UP) last July 22.

“We just have to stick to our defense in the three-point area,” said coach Glenn Capacio.

Game time is set at 4 p.m. at the Arena in San Juan as UST tries to seize a 4-3 slate in the standings.

In the other contest, UP might end its first round campaign in a winless note if the National University (NU) Bulldogs show its biting form in the 2 p.m. match.

The Fighting Maroons continues to languish at the cellar after dropping six straight games while the Bulldogs are looking for a third win in seven assignments.

The second round of eliminations kicks off on Thursday, August 12. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
