UP zooms in first half (4:05 p.m.)

MANILA -- The University of the Philippines (UP) trounced National University (NU) in the first half, 41-21, in the 73rd UAAP men’s basketball tournament Saturday afternoon at the Arena in San Juan.

The Fighting Maroons banked on solid games from co-captain Martin Reyes, Mark Lopez, and rookie Mike Silungan after the triumvirate punched 20 points for the Diliman-based squad.

NU was held to a measly 11-point output in the second quarter as compared to UP’s 28, of which 14 came from turnover points.

Joseph Eriobu paced the Bulldogs with four points and two rebounds, while Melvin Baloran, Larry Malanday and Joseph Hermosisima combined for 10 points. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
