Village poll aspirants told to heed advice

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte said she would want those planning to run for in the barangay elections in October to "listen to advice" before they decide.

A majority of the barangay leaders in the city are under the political party of Hugpong sa Katawhang Lungsod (Hugpong) of erstwhile mayor and incumbent Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Sensing conflicts may arise when barangay captains and lower officials under Hugpong may decide to run against each other, Mayor Duterte said she has requested them to listen in order to avoid conflict.

"Tungod kay sa experience namo tung past barangay election, siyempre isa ra man mi ka grupo, Hugpong man mi tanan, and maglaban laban ang mga hugpong (We have experienced this before during the past barangay election. Of course, we're under the same party, we're all Hugpong and I do not want to see a member fighting against another member)," Duterte said in a conference last week.

"I said this to them, which I also said tung nagkita mi sa katong Anti-Dengue clean up (when we met up during the Anti-Dengue Clean-Up). Wala ko nagapugong sa tanan mudagan since katungod man na sa kandidato kung gusto niya pero I hope maminaw pud sila sa barangays (I am not stopping anyone from running since it's a person's right if he or she wants to become a candidate but I hope they will listen to our) advice with regard to their candidacies so there will be no rivalries within their barangays," Duterte said.

Duterte said as much as possible, she would want to have "win-win" solutions.

"We will try to find a win-win solution in terms of barangay officials. We cannot dictate the personal choice of a person but if we could find a win-win solution kung mudaog man mo gihapon either as kapitan or kagawad then mas maayo walay mapildi sa ilaha (wherein one would run as a barangay captain and another as a kagawad and it would be good that no one is at loss)" Duterte said.
