Fire hits Cebu village, razes 30 houses

CEBU CITY (2nd Update) -- The fire that hit a sitio in Barangay T. Padilla, this city has already spread to another area, leaving more than 30 houses burned, radio reports said.

The fire reportedly started around 12:15 p.m. Monday at the house of a certain Dodong Resul, at the back of Cebu Pacific International Language School in sitio F. Villa, Barangay T. Padilla.

The blaze was earlier declared under control, but it spread to sitio Freedom, also in T. Padilla, radio dyAB reports said.

More than 30 houses, mostly made of light materials, were already razed by the fire. Traffic enforcers have closed some streets, including MJ Cuenco and Imus Avenue.

Firefighters are still putting off the blaze, which is not yet declared under control as of this posting Monday.

Fire trucks from the cities of Talisay and Mandaue, as well as Consolacion aided the Cebu City Fire Department in putting out the fire. The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation and Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade also arrived to help.

Representatives from the Social Welfare office are also in the area to assist families affected by the fire. (Sunnex)
