Davao Sur expects more dengue cases

THE constant heavy rain is expected to increase the number of dengue cases, which now total 844 in Davao del Sur.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has coordinated with barangay officials to help stop the spread of the disease.

Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, provincial health officer, said they are closely monitoring all hospitals and clinics in the province for dengue cases this August.

Dayanghirang is urging all barangay captains to encourage cleanliness among its constituents. PHO aims to removing all the possible breeding places of mosquitoes to help stop the disease.

The Davao del Sur is now under the state of calamity after 13 patients died of dengue since January. Similar cases are also brought to the hospitals every day.

The Provincial Government has released financial assistance to families afflicted with dengue.

According to Dayanghirang, there is no immediate cure for dengue but early detection and prevention help save lives. (Dondon Dinoy)
