LTFRB to conduct seminars for drivers

LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Davao Region is set to conduct a series of public safety and courtesy seminars in preparation for the Kadayawan celebration in Davao City.

LTFRB administrative officer Edgar Violan said Monday their agency in cooperation with the Land Transportation Office, Highway Patrol Group, Traffic Management and Control Board, will subject the city's public utility vehicle operators and drivers in a seminar on courteous dealing with their passengers and safe driving starting this week.

"Alam naman natin na maraming reklamo ang narereceive ng offices pertaining to rude drivers or driving in a way that puts the city in a bad light lalo na maraming pupuntang turista ngayong Kadayawan. We'll be reminding them na they have to be thankful also of their passengers kasi doon nanggagaling yung ikinabubuhay nila," Violan said during Monday's Kapihan sa SM media forum.

In a memorandum dated July 21, LTFRB informed all public utility vehicles, and public cab operator in the city that it has been noted that there is an increase of road accidents due to abusive and reckless driving resulting to property damage, physical disability and loss of human lives.

"It is incumbent that precautions have to be taken for our public utility vehicles to provide the public with satisfactory, convenient safe, and adequate service," Violan said.

Violan said based on their latest data, the city has 232 franchise applications for public utility bus to a sum of 865 units; 53 franchise of mini buses total to 96 units; 5,583 public utility jeepney franchise to a sum of 6,202 units; and 1,663 franchise applications for taxi to a sum of 4195 units.
