Minero takes second win

COMING off a rosy start, Minero buckled down to work in the second half to earn an 87-69 victory against Terte Apartments in bracket B of the ongoing Baguio Day Cup Basketball Tournament at the Easter College gym Sunday.

Christian Galace once again led the miners for their second in win in as many games with his 26 points including clutch triples down the stretch and timely fast break points to seal the victory after trailing by two midway in the second period.

Jeoffrey Mones and Nelson Tortoga chipped in 16 and 10 points each for the new look of the miners as they gun for another win Wednesday evening against Curamed 1.

"The team has started to gel right now and I'm hoping the guys will play as a team as the tournament progress although the team is still a work in progress," said Minero head coach Zards Gacad.

Indeed the team is still a work in progress as three players also shined in their opening win against Sky Cable the other week but Galace and Tortoga were again the key factors in that win.

Minero broke a 22 all contest at the end of the first period as it posted an eight point advantage at the close of the second period, 40-32.

With their second win, Minero grabs hold of an early lead in the team standings, a game ahead of power house Tea House who recently won their first assignment against Curamed 1 in overtime.

Sky Cable and Terte, meanwhile, have yet to register a win in the bracket with a 0-2 and 0-1 win loss record, respectively.

The cable providers will be up against Tea House Thursday evening at Easter College while the miners and the restaurateurs square off Sunday at the Cooyeesan Plaza gym Sunday.

"Our next two games will be a test of how well have we been playing as a team and how our bench players can step up to the level of Tea House and Curamed," added Gacad.
