Gonzales defends Arroyo in Congress floor

QUEZON CITY -- Third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales went to the rescue of former President and now second district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during his manifestation before members of the Congress Wednesday.

Gonzales said the recent attacks on Arroyo by fellow congressmen are hurting the Kapampangans and constituents of the former President.

"Gusto ko lang pong ipaalam na ang aking mga ka probinsya sa lalawigan ng Pampanga, lalo na ang aking mga kababayan sa ikatlong distrito ng Pampanga, ay lubhang nalulungkot sa nababalitaan nilang panlalait at insultong natatanggap ni dating Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo dito mismo sa loob ng Kamara kung saan siya ay isa nang miyembro ng ating House of the People (My constituents in Pampanga, especially those in the third district, were hurt by the insults former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is getting right her in the Congress, where she is also a member of the House of the People)," he said.

Gonzales said that as their elected representative, Arroyo remains well-loved in her home province.

He said the attacks against Arroyo should not be repeated.

Gonzales said that as elected representatives of the people, congressmen are expected to show respect for one another.

"While we may have different political backgrounds, I believe that decency and decorum, especially in the way we conduct ourselves during session days, do not have to follow any political affiliation. I believe we can disagree without being rude and unschooled. No less than our rules call for decency and decorum in how we behave towards one another," Gonzales said. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
