Pagasa to rent mobile satellite from Comelec (8:31 a.m.)

THE Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is set to rent the poll body's mobile satellite communications that was used during the May 2010 elections.

The Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) technology of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expected to improve the state weather bureau's weather forecasting capabilities.

The equipment can also speed up information transmission via satellite even to far-flung areas with no cell sites.

The Department of Science and Technology and the Comelec are already negotiating the rental of the BGAN. (Sunnex)
