MANILA -- House Speaker Sonny Belmonte rejected the idea of Filipino boxing icon and colleague in Congress, Representative Manny Pacquiao (lone district, Sarangani), to hold his training inside the Batasan Complex grounds.
“It's not a good idea. Sports should be sports. Wag nating pinopoliticize ang sports. Besides, it might not be to his advantage,” Belmonte said.
Pacquiao who will likely face Antonio Margarito of Mexico in his next bout on November earlier said he is willing to train in the morning before attending committee hearings and sessions.
Although the House speaker vowed support for the pound-for-pound king, he would not like to sacrifice the work inside the Batasan Complex.
Employees in Congress and even the lawmakers themselves might get distracted when the seven-division boxing champion jogs around the area. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
