1,800 sign up for Pilipinas Int’l. 25K Marathon

ORGANIZERS assured the Pilipinas International 25K Marathon this Sunday at Asiatown IT Park will be a star-studded affair.

“PBB Paul Jake Castillo will be coming over and will run the 5K along with some celebrities,” International Pharmaceuticals Inc. advertising manager Tito Dela Merced said during a press conference last Wednesday at the Sports Exchange Bar and Grill.

Merced said 1,800 runners have already registered and 80 of them will be joining the 25K division. Mary Grace Delos Santos, Cebu’s running queen who has a best time of 1:55 in the 25K, will be joining their event.

He also said six international runners have signed up, including one from Kenya.

No elite runners

“We will be giving the full details of the international runners who will be this Saturday when they arrive,” Dela Merced said.

However, the country’s elite runners will not be able to participate in their event, which is sanctioned by the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association. The

country’s top runners are preparing for the Southeast Asian Games.

Merced also said they will have a carbo-loading party for the 25K runners at Cebu Grand Hotel on Aug. 14.
