3rd leg of Petron's beach volley starts

LINGAYEN – At least twelve teams are currently competing in the two-day 3rd leg of the Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Tournament being at Lingayen Beach Front.

The competing teams are from Far Eastern University (two teams), La Salle-Dasmarinas (three teams), University of the East (two), Ateneo (one team), Pangasinan (three teams), and one mix team.

The champions from the first three leg, will compete in the championship round (fourth leg) which will be held in Puerto Princesa.

Meanwhile, the championship round in the Lingayen-leg will be held this afternoon (Saturday afternoon) at Punta Marcela Beach Resort located beside the police provincial command here.

This sporting event is hosted by second district Representative Leopoldo Bataoil.

“I’ve been in touch with this group because of my sports development program in promoting various sports that will highlight the second district as one of the best tourist destinations in Pangasinan,” Bataoil said.

“Because beach volleyball is a major attraction when you talk about sports, we have this opportunity to invite them to hold the third leg here in Lingayen. I hope Lingayen will be one of their venues from hereon every year,” he remarked.

By promoting sports among the youths, he said, “we are being able to protect them from criminal elements, from engaging in illegal activities, and ensuring that they become good citizens of the land.”

This is also in line with the thrust program of Governor Amado Espino Jr., he added, of promoting the Provincial Capitol Compound as one of the major tourist attractions in the province.

After the motorcade Friday, the volleybelles were welcomed at the governor’s office by Acting Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr.(LCMY/Sunnex)
