P40-M public safety complex for Davao

ALSONS Development and Investment Corp. (AlsonsDev), one of the leading real estate companies operating in Davao City, has donated a 2,000-square-meter property to the City Government.

The property will be used for the setting-up of new satellite office of the Central 911 that will service the northern part of the city.

Alsons is set to construct the P40-million Integrated Public Safety Complex at Northtown in Cabantian, Buhangin.

The facility, which is set for completion in March 2016, consists of three buildings and will be handed over to the City Government upon completion as part of the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR).

At the groundbreaking ceremony Friday, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte thanked Alsons for the donation, saying the facility's location is very strategic in ensuring that Central 911 could readily address the emergency needs of the people.

It is about five kilometers away from the nearest fire station and 18 kilometers away from the Central 911 office in Sandawa.

The donation includes the Public Safety Complex, consisting of the Fire Department, the Compact police station, and the Satellite 911 station.

Rosie Dominguez, Alsons executive vice president, said the donation is their modest contribution to the city's program for the promotion of public safety and security services.

"We are about five kilometers away from the nearest fire station and 911 in Sandawa is 18 kilometers away. It is for this reason that we have prioritized the construction of the Public Safety Complex, as the first component in the township. As the residential communities in the Buhangin District continue to increase in number, it has become evident that a Public Safety Complex in this area is essential to ensure that life’s emergencies are immediately taken care of," Dominguez said.

The satellite office is located within the Alsons Dev's 10-hectare township project called Northtown. It will soon have educational, commercial and institutional components.

The complex's community police assistance center will ensure a 24-hour safety and security of the area of Buhangin and its neighboring communities while the fire station will have a 24-hour emergency and rescue team, sleeping quarters and fireman's pole.

"The design and features of each building are based on specifications and standards set by each government agency," Dominguez said, adding that part of their commitment is donating an ambulance unit for Central 911.

At present, Northtown’sphase one and two are already 70 percent sold.

Northtown is an educational, institutional and residential 10-hectare property.
