BASILAN Governor Jum Akbar has urged the police to immediately arrest the perpetrators of the 2007 Batasan bombing that killed her husband, former Rep. Wahab Akbar and five others.

The governor’s call came after a Quezon City court ordered the arrest of former Basilan congressman Gerry Salapuddin, who is one of the seven accused in the November 13, 2007 bombing at the Batasan complex.

The other six accused are former Tuburan, Basilan Mayor Hajarun Jamiri, PO1 Bayan Judda, Adham Kusain, Ikram Indama, Caidar Aunal and Benjamin Hataman.

Three people, including Basilan Congressman Wahab Akbar, were killed while seven others were wounded in the powerful explosion at the south wing of the Batasan complex in Quezon City.

Akbar said she is happy to learn that the Batasan bombing case is moving forward with the issuance of the warrant of arrest against Salapuddin and other accused.

The accused are facing multiple murder and frustrated murder charges before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court branch 83 of Judge Ralph Lee.

Lee issued the arrest warrant against Salapuddin last Friday.

Akbar also urged the public, especially the Basileños who lost a leader because of the bombing, to help law enforcement agencies in arresting the suspects by providing necessary information of their whereabouts. (Bong Garcia)
