Ateneo dumps Assumption

THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) overpowered Assumption School of Davao (ASD), 71-40, at the start Saturday of the Royal Mandaya Hotel Cup 2010 Inter-School Mini Basketball Tournament at the Davao City Recreation Center.

The Ateneo dribblers, with their family members cheering them on, employed a paralyzing defense and a killing running game in dumping Assumption.

Col. Emil Escandor made the ceremonial toss and was joined by son Glenn at the opening ceremonies of the tournament featuring seven teams.

Tournament manager Macario "Bong" Gonzaga welcomed the participants to the event organized by Glenn Escandor himself.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao Region director Regino "Boy" Cua also graced the opening rites. Tournament director is Rico Biliran.

Ateneo headed Group A which is also composed of Assumption and University of Immaculate Conception. The Holy Child School of Davao, Doña Pilar Learning Center, Emar Learning Center, and Magallanes Elementary School are playing in Group B.

The top two teams in each bracket will advance to the cross-over semifinals. The winners then will dispute the crown and the losers the third place trophy.

Cash prizes and trophies await the winners in the tournament that will end on August 28. The champion will receive P15,000, second P10,000, third P5,000, and fourth P2,500. (CRAM)
