Aquino fails weekly press briefing

PRIVATE meetings and document reviews were keeping President Benigno Aquino III from fulfilling his promise of holding a weekly press briefing in Malacañang.

Since June 30, the President has only conducted two formal press conferences in the Palace.

"Medyo marami lang po siyang ginagawang trabaho ngayon. Marami siyang nire-review na concerns," President's spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.

Based on the regular advisory of the President's itinerary, most of his schedules are "private meetings" that are seldom open for media coverage.

Lacierda however clarified that the private meetings of President Aquino mean that he not working.

He said that the Aquino is either discussing important matters privately or reviewing documents particularly with the executive orders he has to issue.

"Pasensya na kung hindi siya makasunod. Mag-uusap kami. I will remind him," he told the media, adding: "We will make it to a point that he will come out once a week."

Earlier, Aquino requested for formal weekly press briefing instead of being ambushed by reporters every time he has functions outside Malacanang.(Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
