Transparency in sale of TV stations sought (1:04 p.m.)

MANILA -- While the privatization of two television stations is being eyed by the administration, a lawmaker said that this move would only be possible if transparency is ensured in the privatization process.

Committee on Public Information chair and Representative Ben Evardone (lone district, Eastern Samar) added that the possible privatization of RPN 9 and IBC 13 would only be realized if the government will be able to muster enough political will.

“All past administrations have vowed to pursue privatization also but because of their desire to beef up their propaganda machine, the privatization is no longer the priority. There must be transparency in the privatization process,” said Evardone.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Herminio Coloma ealier expressed the Aquino administration's intentions to privatize the two television stations that were sequestered after the late President Corazon Aquino replaced dictator Ferdinand Marcos. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
