ILOILO Congressman Jerry Treñas is prioritizing the growth of information communications technology (ICT) and tourism in Iloilo City, as the City Government and private sector brace for massive developments.
Treñas, chairman of the House committee on good government and public accountability and senior vice chairman on the committee on local government, said he is lucky to be appointed in these committees despite being a neophyte member of the Congress.
Treñas is also a member of the House committees on information and communications technology, ways and means, and ecology.
He said there are now more than 4,000 ICT workers in Iloilo City, notably in call centers, affirming the fact that the city is the regional educational center of Western Visayas with the presence of several colleges and universities and special training schools.
The tourism sector will also be upgraded with facilities to entice visitors to come and see the city's natural attractions and the festivals.
On top of these commitments, Treñas said he is working for infrastructure projects to be funded with his priority development assistance fund (PDAF) that will enhance and improve the ICT and tourism sectors.
The incoming four major infrastructure projects will include the widening of the Montinola Bridge in Jaro district, a new circumferential road, and a new bridge from the Benigno Aquino Ave. in Mandurriao district to La Paz district.
He will also help in the realization of the Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project, which the National Economic and Development Authority is studying for Iloilo to have additional irrigation water, potable water supply and electrification.
