Flood, landslide displace 26 families

A TOTAL of 26 families fled their homes after flashfloods and landslides hit Sulop, Davao del Sur on Sunday.

The incessant rains on Saturday night caused the water to rise in the remote part of barangay Waterfall, Sulop, flooding the area at around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Three homes were damaged by the landslide in Purok 7, while water flooded other homes and destroyed property.

Puroks 7, 8, and 10 in Poblacion were also flooded, causing motorists going to General Santos and Digos City to be stranded on the highway.

Town Mayor Jose Jimmy Sagarino and his staff have been assisting the affected families. 

Members of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council assisted the victims affected by the flood, who are now housed at the municipal gymnasium.

There was no casualty in the flooding.

The PDCC has reminded residents in the province to stay alert as the bad weather continues.

According to the Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office, the continuous rains will cause more damage to property and crops in the area. (Dondon Dinoy)
