Private sector support praised

THE private sector initiated 90 percent of the events for the 25th Kadayawan celebration, said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Duterte expressed her satisfaction that the private sector is strongly supporting the festival.

City Tourism Office Bong Aportadera also noted a strong cooperation between the city and the private sector, even if this year's budget is the lowest compared to recent years.

"Admittedly, our budget this year which is at P5 million, is quite small compared to our budget in 2009 and 2008, which was around P12 million and P14 million. (Anyway) We're still expecting a big celebration this year kasi ang importante naman eh yung presence ng tao.," Aportadera said.

"We have a lot of events this year initiated by private companies. Sa kadaghan, siyaro dili maglibog ang mga tao kung asa muadto (Having so many events, I think the people would have a hard time deciding where to go)," Aportadera said.

Aportadera said several events have started Monday, like the launching of Museo Dabawenyo Exhibit, which features Engr. Manuel Mendros, the 2nd Solo Art Exhibit for Painting; and the Hudyakaan Opening along Bolton Street, a continuing street party.

The Kadayawan Trade Fair at the City Council lobby was also formally opened Monday morning. Duterte led the opening with the deputy mayors of the city's major tribes: Obo Manuvu, Kalagan, Sama, Tagabawa, Maguindanao, Klata, Tausug, Matigsalog, Ata, and Maranao.
