The Lady Bulldogs, who lost to title contender Ateneo de Manila in straight set fashion last August 8, showed stronger composure than the Lady Altas in the two-hour tiff.

NU was drafted to replace grandslam winner University of Santo Tomas (UST) after it begged off participation to allow players to rest in time for the UAAP volleyball wars next semester.

Sandra delos Santos paced the losing effort of Perpetual with 18 points, including 12 kills, while the triumvirate of Nica Guliman, Ronerry dela Cruz, and April Sartin contributed 34 hits for the debuting squad.

But with 2-5 carry-over slate, NU will have a lot of catching up to do in the single-round quarters, starting off with a match against powerhouse San Sebastian on Thursday.

In the other contest, a vastly improved Adamson University firmed up its bid for a semifinal berth as it turned back anew on San Sebastian College, 25-15, 21-25, 25-13, 19-25, 13-15.

Last July 29, the Lady Falcons also controlled the deciding fifth set to enlist victory over the Lady Stags, which took almost two hours to settle.

Guest player Nerissa Bautista exploded for 23 hits while skipper Angela Benting punched in 15 points to upend the highly-touted San Sebastian squad.

The Lady Falcons tied the Lady Stags on top with a 6-2 (win-loss) card while idle Ateneo de Manila is at 5-2.

Thai import Jeng Bualee delivered a monster performance for coach Roger Gorayeb with 27 points while guest player Joy Benito chipped in 21 hits for the losing cause. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
