Canino shines in Asset chess

SEVEN-year-old Ronald Canino of Kauswagan Elementary School ruled the Cagayan de Oro Asset's last weekend chess tourney at the City Tourism Hall.

A protege of coach Noel Candelario, the fast-learning Canino delivered a perfect 4 of 4 performance in the 15-under field that attracted a total of 30 participants.

"Naay tira nga bata. Kon magkugi hayag nga adunay sya'y future sa chess," said Woman National Master Cecil Gaburno Cuizon.

Ian Bert Capricho and Andrix Josh Felisilda shared second to third places with 3.5 points each, while Andrew Joseph Felisilda and Vanessa Magno occupied joint 4th with identical 3 points.

Meanwhile, the sports-loving Omar Labuntog told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that there will be another chess tourney this year in barangay Lapasan.

"The huge turnout of participants in the recently-held 1st Barangay Captain Atilano Labuntog Memorial Cup was impressive and it is an honor for us (One Lapasan Movers) to host of another one," the younger Labuntog said. (LLS)
