MANILA -- Malacanang on Tuesday stood firm on the order of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) not to put names and images of politicians on government project billboards.
“I think the departments are perfectly within their authority to issue those memos,” Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang said in a press briefing.
Several congressmen earlier opposed the removal of names on government signages, noting that it is a way of transparency and establishing rapport to their constituents.
Carandang said the congressmen have the right to question the order but they have to abide with it because the administration has no plans of retracting it.
“The congressmen can question that, they can differ with that and they can question that in Congress but until it has been proven otherwise I think the departments have the authority to do such,” he stressed. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
