Merging of anti-poverty programs pushed

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) proposed the merging of two of its poverty alleviating programs to create more impact.

An official of DSWD on Monday said the proposal to the Aquino administration received positive feedback.

They are pushing for the convergence of the poverty alleviation programs: Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services: Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (Kalahi-CIDSS) and the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps); both of which were implemented during the Arroyo administration.

Kalahi-CIDSS deputy national project manager Edgar Pato said he met with other government officials to discuss how the two programs can closely collaborate.

"DSWD's battlecry has always been for faster, better, and smarter delivery of services. Also, since we have identified which areas in the country badly need poverty-reduction initiatives then we see how the target of Kalahi-Cidss is almost the same as those of 4Ps." Pato said. (Jade C. Zaldivar)
