THE University of Cebu Baby Web-masters showed a lot of grit as they decapitated the Don Bosco Technological College (DBTC) Baby Greywolves in a one-sided 106-48 high school game of the 2010 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation (Cesafi) Basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.

The mismatch was obvious as early as the opening minutes of the game. UC gained the telling 26-12 edge through the outstanding performances from John Raphael Aranas, Niko Nemeño and Alvin Labo-Labo Jr. who combined for 17 points that set the tone for a lopsided victory.

Don Bosco, however, showed some bright moments in the second period behind the efforts of Jose Marlo Pono and Dale Emmanuel Belangel, but Jerick Gel Yburan and Labo-Labo made it impossible for the Greywolves to gain momentum.

Smelling blood, the Baby Webmasters took out all the wind from the Baby Greywolves as its trapping defense held the smaller opponents to just 9 points, to establish a 70-35 lead entering the final period. They continued to pound until the final buzzer, to march to their third win in four games. Don Bosco, on the other hand, suffered its third straight defeat to tie with the embattled University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars with 0-3 win-loss cards.

Aranas, who scored 10 in UC’s 36-13 fourth quarter blitz, scored the game high 20 points. Labo-Labo followed with 19, Nemeño contributed 13, and Adamme Talisic and Yburan scored 12 points each for UC while Pono was the lone Baby Greywolf to score in double digits with 10.
