RANKED number 2 Chemisolutions withstood a late charge by No. 6 JSY Transport to hack out an 85-78 victory while No. 5 Huminova Tigers smothered No. 4 Basecom, 93-72 in the quarterfinals of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 2nd conference inter-color tournament at Po Hang gym, Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
John Montemayor and Marc Lo combined for 20 pts. to give Chemisolutions a 24-21 first quarter lead while Dr. Chico Coruña had 8 pts. and Vincent Tan with 6 pts. for JSY.
Robbie Jalando-on's fastbreak attacks netted him 10 pts. and Matthew Yap added 6 pts. extending the lead to 46-36 at the half.
In the 3rd quarter Ralph Ong kept JSY in the game with his rebounds and putbacks tallying 9 pts. but Chemi responded with a the solid play from Gary Dipol at the post garnering 8 pts. to keep the Chemi's lead at the end of the quarter, 61-54.
JSY came strong cutting the lead as close as 2 points, 65-63, on a Ralph Ong 3 pt. play. Chemi got a meek response with a Marc Lo layup but JSY Monroe Chua struck for 5 straight pts to give JSY its 1st lead in the 2nd half.
Lo registered a 3 pt. play and was answered by the drives of JSY JB Baylosis and Vincent Tan for a 72-70 JSY lead, but it was short-lived as John Montemayor hit a top of the key trey.
Chemi tried to pull away on the 2 free throws by Robbie Jalando-on and Yap but JSY stayed closed with Charlton Ong and Vincent Tan layups. JSY missed their opportunity to gain some headway as they committed 2 fastbreak turnovers.
Robbie Jalando-on was inconsistent from the line as he can only connected 3 of 6 but was enough to put Chemi on top over JSY who had problems converting a basket in the last 1:30 of the game.
Lo topscored for 22 pts. with 12 pts. in the final quarter while Jalando-on poured in 19 pts., Montemayor drilled 14, Gary Dipol had12 and Matthew Yap with 8 pts.
The absence of towering center Christopher Javelosa made JSY's heavy campaign.
Vincent Tan and Charlton Ong led JSY with 14 pts. apiece, Monroe Chua dropped11 pts., Ralph Ong and Dr. Coruña with 10 pts. apiece and JB Baylosis had 7.
On the other hand, Huminova Tigers outscored Basecom in all quarters 17-15, 22-19, 25-21, 29-20 to advance to the other semis slot.
Joshua Chua shot 8 triples enroute to a 24 pt. game, RB Chua poured in 21 pts. Richard Co with 18 pts. Jan Jan Lopue had 9 and Atong Villanueva 8
