AFTER getting foiled last Sunday, the Alaska Aces finally got their 13th title in the Philippine Basketball Association yesterday.
The Aces beat the San Miguel Beermen, 102-88 , in Game 6 of the PBA Fiesta Cup finals last night to win the title, 4-2, and tie Crispa for the second-most titles in the league.
San Miguel still leads the league with 18 titles.
Alaska, which played catch-up in their two-point loss in Game 5, started strong and got ahead 28-19 at the end of the first period and was still up, 52-44, at halftime.
A scoring binge by LA Tenorio and Cyrus Baguio in the third put Alaska up, 60-44, before Arwind Santos ended the impasse with a trey.
The Aces didn’t relent in the third and leaned on Diamon Simpson, Tenorio and Baguio to answer the Beermen’s surge as they stayed ahead by 13, 77-64, going into the fourth.
Alaska was still ahead by 15 in the fourth when the seldom-used Mick Penissi got SMB back into the fight with three straight treys, the last at 4:29 to cut the lead to nine, 93-84.
However, Simpson, who finished with 32, got the lead back to double figures, 99-86, with less than two minutes left to play.
