2-cornered fight looms for councilors' league prexy

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -Councilor Ralph Daniel Henson's intention to run as president of the Pampanga Councilors' League will give way to a two-cornered fight with Councilor Efren Blanco of Bacolor.

Councilor Henson, son of Governor Lilia Pineda's chief of staff, Engineer Rosve Henson, is now on his second term as member of the City Council. He is considered by his colleagues as a young and dynamic public servant.

Henson started his political career as SK president of the city in 2002. He was first elected regular member of the City Council in 2007.

Meanwhile, Blanco is a former vice-mayor of Bacolor and now the incumbent first councilor of the Municipal Board.

It can be recalled that during the time of Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda as president of the Pampanga Mayors' League (PML), Blanco served as assistant secretary general in charge.

The PML endorsed Blanco as they believe on Blanco's wide experience in governance and legislation.

Meanwhile, Henson said he will initiate the "sharing of best practices" among the members of the league to improve legislative output and become more effective and responsive in their mandate as legislators in their own localities.

The two top councilors are hoping they could get the votes of their fellow councilors from the 21 municipalities of the province. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
