Foundation organizes Misamis Oriental Chess Cup 2010

THE Misamis Oriental Chess Development Foundation (MOCDF) has organized an all-weather chess tournament at the park, dubbed as Misamis Oriental Chess Cup 2010 at the provincial capitol garden, Cagayan de Oro City, on August 21-23 and September 7-9, this year.

MOCDF president Lorimer R. Moreno said the Misamis Oriental Chess Cup 2010, which will adopt an individual Swiss system tournament format, shall have open and 14-under (kiddies) categories.

More than P65,000 cash prizes, trophies and medals are at stake for the top 10 placers with the would-be open category champion getting the top purse of P20,000. The champion in the 14-under category shall be P6,000 richer.

Moreno said the foundation has long been conducting weekly tournaments among the MOCDF members and it is about time that a bigger competition like the Misamis Oriental Chess Cup be organized.

He said MOCDF is thankful to the Provincial Government, under the leadership of Governor Oscar S. Moreno and Vice Governor Norris C. Babiera for approving their proposal and supporting the tournament.

Supporting the holding of the Misamis Oriental Chess Cup 2010 are chess national arbiters Domingo M. Oga Jr. and Roger Verganio and national master Roly Tan. Registration fees are P250 for the open and P100 for the 14-under categories.

Those interested to join the MisOr Chess Cup 2010 may contact the MOCDF president (landline 08822-727278 or mobile number 0999-4686023). (PR/UCQ)
