ONLY 10 teams will be accommodated when the Batang Scott's Emulsion 10 & under basketball tournament is set to open tentatively on September 3, 2010 at 888 China town Covered Court.
Tournament commissioner Pastor Renato Bravo said he has already sent letter of invitation to 10 different schools, five each from public and private, to join the tournament, which will be played on weekends until the championship.
Bravo said the teams are Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS), Trinity Christian School, St. John's Institute, University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod for the private schools.
For the public schools are; Mabini Elementary School, Andress Bonifacio Elementary School, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Elementary School, Rizal elementary School and Educational Training Center School 1 & 2.
Bravo added that in case the team will withdraw, other schools will be tapped as second priority to fill up the void left by the withdrawing school.
Drawing of lots among participating teams will be done this Friday during the final meeting of coaches and team representatives with each bracket to have a mix teams from both private and public so as to balance the bracketing.
Ryan Lio Tumbagahan, Assoc ASM-West Visayas, GSK Consumer Philippines said, this is the first time that a company will sponsor a basketball tournament from the grassroots with no registration required, but instead they are the one providing the uniforms for each 15 members of the team.
He added that the company GlaxoSmithKline, maker of quality consumer and over-the-counter (OTC) products in the market will give out gift packs for parents of each participating players, coaches and principals; to conduct product orientation and sampling and door prizes for parents, teachers and students during each participating school visits; and plaque of participation and medals of recognition for schools, teams, coaches and outstanding players in the conclusion of the tournament.
The team is only required to surrender an empty box of any Scott's Emulsion for each player bought from assigned store partner in Bacolod City or other parts of the province.
